1962 Volkswagen Transporter Pickup.

From Jonathan Welsh: "We spotted this gem while walking to breakfast in Peacham, Vermont. We do not see many of the pickup truck versions of the Transporter in the states, where the van was more popular. Owner Cynthia Camber mentioned that many of the pickups that did find there way here became flower trucks. We picked up a resupply of lavender."

AL: we've posted a Transporter pickup from the 1970s. And c. 1965 VW dropside we caught in LA last winter. Then there was the 1988 VW Transporter dropside in New Hampshire. Then there were 2 in Tuscany,

c. 1973 Saab Wagon

From Reid Cunningham: "Driving home from Vermont I took the back roads and ended up behind this lovely Saab wagon.  When I pulled into a local hardware store I followed to get a few quick shots.  I heard the owner telling another admirer of the car about its free-wheeling transmission...no engine braking with this manual!  The car had a set of Saab alloy wheels, I have no idea of they are period correct but they looked great (maybe from a Saab Sonnet?).  Small two door wagons were popular through the 70's, a species of car that has completely disappeared."

AL: here's another Saab-with-tailfins wagon, out in West Texas.

1953 Jeep CJ 3. Burlington, Vermont.

From Reid Cunningham: A trip to Vermont proved fruitful for interesting old iron.  This beautifully restored Jeep was parked at a strip mall in Burlington.  I appreciated it having been kept essentially stock, no new motor (as far as I could tell), lift kits, fancy bumpers or the like.  I appreciated the dash plaque with instructions, but was stumped for a few moments seeing shift patterns for three levers (transmission, transfer case engagement  and transfer case hi-low), but there being 4 levers!  Finally I realized the last one was the parking brake!  The weather all week was glorious for early fall, 70's and sun every day,  perfect for driving this with no top.

1955 Buick Riviera in drag

From Reid Cunningham: "While driving to get a new battery for my 1954 Farmall Cub tractor, I discovered a 1955 Buick Riviera drag racer in the parking lot of the auto store in Milton, VT.  Hoop roll bar, Hurst shifter, headers through the fender wells, radiused wheel openings, mags and pie cut cheater slicks.  Mostly primer but they did save some of the original paint.  I'm really hoping there is big Buick nailhead under those portholes, fed by a couple of carburetors."

The Lifted Colorado Cayenne

This from Markus Anstadt, last February---it somehow slipped through our email. "Spotted this Porsche Cayenne in a Denver neighborhood. Check out the tire size and the lift kit." Markus found us a Porsche Safari Machine a while back.  We have posted a vintage Porsche 1600 from Banff. And then there was Janis Joplin's Porsche. Then there is the 1956 Porsche Speedster that lived in Marfa.

1941 Willys Americar. Jamestown, Calif.

From Colin Washburn, at the Jamestown (Calif.) Car Show. "Had never heard of a Willys Americar before. They were produced from 1937-1942. 63 hp 4 cylinder engine. This one’s a 1941, but I doubt it’s got a 4-banger under the hood!"
