Yes, the road.

Yes, the road.
Eagle Nest, New Mexico. “People like to drive because driving is actually and symbolically an almost perfect mechanism for escape…there is probably no human being who does not have troubles, real or imagined, from which he at times feels the need to flee.” George R. Stewart.

Enosburg Falls, Vermont, part 2. The 1950 Ford Rat Rod

John's Auto Repair on the road to Canada (Route 108) in Enosburg Falls. He says the Ford is his favorite, and it's the only car on the place not for sale.

The Border Country, Quebec/Vermont

West Berkshire, Vermont
I'm on the road every week this fall between Cambridge Mass. and Montreal where I'm the Mordecai Richler Writer in Residence at Concordia University. It's a five hour trip up I-93 and I-89 if I don't get caught in traffic leaving Boston, or on the approaches to the Champlain Bridge across the St Lawrence River. Montreal is undergoing a massive retrofit of its crumbling network of roads and bridges and traffic can be a snarl. There are plenty of beautiful back roads as an option on that route.

1934 Chevrolet

Chevy on the Rocks . I took this shot a few years ago . Late in the day , off a range road up close to Diefenbaker Lake . North of Swift Current, Saskatchewan by about an hour. When I was a young kid, John Diefenbaker patted me on the head while he was making his way to the podium to open the Maxville Highland Games. Many years later I became partially bald. Mere coincidence?  Cheers , Alex

New Tappan Zee, old Dodge

from Stephen Hendrickson: I chased this old Dodge across the new Tappan Zee Bridge, and somehow in Saturday traffic I still got a few good shots.

"Need a pickup?"
You know the answer to that one.
