AL caught another VW on Deer Isle. Maybe our favorite car down on the island was this 1961 Chrysler New Yorker, aka the batmobile.

1969 Volkswagen Deer Isle, Maine
From Jonathan Welsh: "This sunworn bug caught our attention in Deer Isle Village in part because it was parked with the engine running (and a sweet passenger). The distinctive sounds and smells of its air-cooled flat four gave Alexa and me flashbacks. We figure our families owned at least four Beetles and a Karmann Ghia from the '50s through the '70s. My mother drove a red '73 and said learning to shift a Beetle meant you could drive anything."
