Carry Me, book boost.

My 2016 novel, Carry Me, will be coming out in paperback editions next month in the United States, Canada and France (as "Les Insouciants"). The book was a finalist for the National Jewish Book Award and is featured on National Public Radio's Best of 2016 list.
"Great historical novels give us a god's omnipotence. They don't coddle but burden us with the sure knowledge that we can do nothing to alter the flow of time. And this is the inherent tragedy that lives at the heart of Carry Me, which follows the fortunes of two intermingled families through one of the most turbulent times in modern history — England, Ireland and Germany in the first half of the 20th century. We can read words like "Blitz" and "zeppelin" and "Nazi" echoing in our heads, and we know that there's nothing we can do but watch and wait for the bad things to come..." NPR Best of 2016

Let me see...what cars did I put in that book? There was the red 1914 Mercedes, in Frankfurt...

The 1928 Mercedes S Class that sped to Heidelberg and back...
...and the 1935 Plymouth (used) that made it from New York City to New Mexico.

CARRY ME is “another meditation on history and destiny . . . that make[s] the past feel stunningly close at hand.” —Megan O’Grady, Vogue

"Behrens captures his narrator’s naïveté and the casual anti-Semitism of the times with great skill and intelligence . . . as true an observation about human nature as there is." —Dennis Bock, The New York Times Book Review (Sunday, March 20, 2016)

"Behrens is a beautiful, lyric writer. His understanding of the age and command of it, moment to moment, is impressive . . . everything is beautiful in the details, in the smallness of personal moments even as we know that no matter how calm, how peaceful the moment, it will not last." —Jason Sheehan, NPR

"Peter Behrens is a powerful stylist . . . if exile is Behrens’s obsession, he’s still making it work in his fiction" —The Globe and Mail
