Thomas Gardiner's Western Canada project includes many photographs that are downbeat clichés, kinda what you'd expect of a Yalie on the loose for a few moments in flyover country, before nesting in Brooklyn. Stephen Shore mastered that genre in color and maybe Cartier-Bresson in B&W leaving not much to report from the heartland, photographically speaking, that doesn't seem, well, tired and--maybe-- patronizing. But some of Gardiner's images do have a certain je ne sais quoi
