William Gedney, Kentucky, Cars.
I had not seen William Gedney's work before I saw the book, What Was True: The Photographs and Notebooks of William Gedney. Gedney spent serious time with a couple of eastern Kentucky families in 1964 and again in 1972. One of the inspirations must have been Walker Evans, and the Let Us Now Praise Famous Men photographs. but it's clear that Gedney had a vision of his own. All these (except the 1959 Oldsmobile, above) are from the Kentucky series. The images are archived at Duke U. and you can find more here: William Gedney Photographs and Writings Duke University David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library http://library.duke.edu/digitalcollections/gedney/
