But the big-windowed design seemed futuristic and was a big seller when it arrived for the 1975 model year. Timing was almost perfect as the energy crisis pushed people toward smaller, more fuel-efficient cars. Sales sliokpped by 1977 as Toyota, Datsun and other imports with better mileage and quality took over. I don't think those rivals ever matched the Pacer's unique interiors, though. Production ended with the 1980 model.'
