from Jonathan Welsh: "When I was growing up in the 1970s and '80s, people loved to make fun of the fake-wood decor on many U.S. station wagons and certain sport-utility vehicles like the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. But clearly there was underlying love because folks sure bought a lot of them. I always considered Ford's Country Squire the best-executed version through the decades. Ford turned them out from 1950 to 1991. As SUVs pushed wagons out of the market, most of the wood went with them. Of course Squires like this '85 model are rare and desirable today. The Rice and Holman dealer badge is of interest to fans of drag racing's golden age in the 1960s and '70. Back then the Pennsauken, N.J., dealership sponsored Ford Mustangs and Mavericks driven by racing legend Al Joniec...The 1968 Mustang racer (below) is courtesy of Mecum Auctions.
