1973 Opel GT

from Jonathan Welsh: "I was on my way to Deer Isle to fix a few things at the house late last month when I saw this rare bird parked outside Verona Island's famous Rock Shop.

"Many people growing up in the 1970s might have called the Opel GT a "baby Corvette" but I used to think it more clearly channeled Bertone (Lamborghini Miura) or Pininfarina (Ferrari Dino 246). In fact it was Brissonneau & Lotz, a French builder of locomotives and railcars, who turned out these beauties for General Motors' Opel division.

 "The owner confirmed this is a 1973 model -- last of the line that started in 1968. Original paint and yes, it came from the factory with those 13-inch wheels. Wow."

AL: The last Opel we posted was the hardy little Kadett, which is a whole 'nother story. No one would ever mistake the stubby K-wagen for a Lamborghini.
